The Adult literacy program, running since year 2004 at all manufacturing locations of JK Tyre has transformed the lives of more than 50,000 rural illiterate women. These women are now functionally literate, may read and write with ease, do basic calculations, help their children in study, started income generation activities and moving ahead on path of progress and prosperity. The Adult literacy program at Central Prison, Mysore is a unique initiative and it helped more than 5,500 prison inmates to become functionally literate. A third party impact assessment of adult literacy program has revealed that project has been extremely successful. In addition to educating illiterate rural women, the project had been instrumental in improving women’s position in society, education of their children, entrepreneurship development; increase in household income and eventually improvement in quality of life of these neo-literates.
JK Tyre's initiative to introduce Smart Classes in government schools aims to enhance the learning environment by providing digital infrastructure. The project, initially launched in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu has been expanded to other plant locations. Each Smart Class is equipped with a Big Smart TV displaying a digital course curriculum, complemented by comprehensive teacher training. •No of smart classes supported in schools: 55 •No of Teachers trained: 200+ •No of students getting benefited: 14000+
‘Deskit’ school bags to underprivileged students addresses the crucial need for proper seating infrastructure in schools of Mysuru, Sriperumbudur, Morena & Kankroli. These innovative bags, a combination of a school bag and study desk designed by graduates from IIT-Kanpur, have been provided in 34 schools, benefitting 2,725 students.
JK Tyre has partnered with reputed institutions like Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) and Vidyasarthi (NSDL e-Gov Technology Ltd.) to ensure effective management and disbursement of scholarships. Through annual scholarships of ₹ 15,000/- for non-technical courses and ₹ 25,000/- for technical courses, it seeks to alleviate the financial burden associated for daughters of commercial drivers in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to pursue higher studies. Total 97 scholarships for the academic year 2023-24 have been disbursed so far, benefiting students from the bottom of the pyramid.
